Twelve grapes

There's a tradition we do in new year. I had never wondered where this thing extends to, but I just looked at it in wikipedia, and it says it comes from spain. Makes sense, since mexico was a spanish colony for 3 hundred years.

From wikipedia: "The tradition consists in eating a grape with each bell strike at midnight of December 31". Normally, we turn the national t.v. on, they put on the countdown and the bell strikes.
Also, supposedly, you think of a wish for new year for every grape you eat. But, haha, eating twelve grapes in twelve bell strikes is a bit hard. Specially when they are big and they have seeds, you know, the purple kind.

My mother's success was unfathomable since she can't really swallow peels or seeds. Actually, the rest two thirds of the grapes she ate in... seven minutes. Twelve grapes. Yup.

So the tradition goes: twelve grapes, then toast, then hugs and kisses and congratulations to everyone and stuff. (This is all AFTER the food)

Wow, this was long. Anyways, what do you do in new year? as a tradition or as a special occasion?
